Macedonian authorities declare state of emergency on Greek border

YEREVAN, AUGUST 20, ARMENPRESS. Macedonian authorities declared state of emergency over migrant influx on their southern border with Greece on August 20. “Armenpress” reports that France-Presse agency informed about this citing the official statement.

The agency informs that army units will be deployed on the border with Greece to help to oversee the migrant influx into the country.

"Due to an increasing pressure on the southern border bigger and more efficient control is needed in the region where illegal border crossings from the Greek side have been massively registered," a government statement said.

As a result of growing migrant numbers from Northern Africa, Middle East, Central and Southern Asia the migrant crisis has worsened in Europe for the last years. Ria Novosti informs that according to the UN data 250 thousand migrants arrived in European countries only by sea.
