Iran will continue missile activities

Iran will continue missile activities

YEREVAN, AUGUST 17, ARMENPRESS. An Iranian top military commander says the country's missile work will not hit a snag as it proceeds. “As planned in the country, the missile activities of the Islamic Republic of Iran will face no obstacles,” Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said on Sunday. Armenpress reports the abovesaid, citing “Press TV” channel. He added that Iran carries out each missile test after the approval of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. On Wednesday, Firouzabadi said Iran would continue its missile tests in due course in line with Ayatollah Khamenei's directives. During nuclear negotiations between Tehran and the P5+1 group, comprising the US, Britain, Russia, China, and France plus Germany, the six states exerted pressure on Iran over its military capabilities.

Iran, however, said it would only discuss its nuclear program and that its missiles are solely used as a deterrent against any potential foreign aggression. Iran and the six world powers reached a historic agreement in Vienna on July 14 that was subsequently backed by the United Nations Security Council. Based on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), as the agreement is called, Tehran will limit its nuclear activities in exchange for, among other things, removal of anti-Iran sanctions.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly said that its military might poses no threat to other countries, reiterating that its defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.
