Empire

YEREVAN, AUGUST 4, ARMENPRESS. The temporary exhibition “Armenian Sport and Gymnastics in the Ottoman Empire” will be opened at the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute from August 4 till October 1.

The exhibition will include exceptional materials and photos. The exhibition consists of 12 titles referring to 1900-1923 Gymnastics Movement in the Ottoman Empire

Armenpress reports that the opening of the temporary exhibition was attended by Gabriel Ghazarian, the Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs of Armenia, Smbat Lputian, founding president of Chess Academy of Armenia and many others.

Minister Gabriel Ghazarian thanked the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute director - Hayk Demoyan - for the large-scale work done.

“If we make a historical review and go back, we will see that the Armenians have always kept high the honor of the Armenian sport even in the times of the Armenian kings Trdat and Varazdat when they became Olympic champions. In reference to the book and the exhibition, we can say that we don’t have such a book, this is the first book of historic nature.”, said the Minister.

The brother of the editor of the sports magazine “Marmnamarz” Shavarsh Krissian, noted that the exhibition and the homonymous book prove who the Armenians were and what important heritage they possess. The latter said: “Those visiting the History Museum must be conscious of the heritage and contribution that we have.”
