Tom Cruise to reprise role in upcoming Top Gun 2 film

YEREVAN, JUNE 29, ARMENPRESS: The sequel to Top Gun is being written "as we speak", and bad ass fighter pilot Maverick will be back in an "amazing role". Armenpress reports, citing stuff.co.nz that all the couch fly boys are sitting on the edge of the seats after a few details of the project were made public, and they're more than ready to ride right back into the danger zone.
It looks like Tom Cruise will be back as Maverick, the cocky, belligerent fighter pilot with the big chip on his shoulder.
Indications that Cruise will have a major role in Top Gun 2 came from David Ellison, chief executive of company Skydance Productions which is making the sequel with Paramount.
"There is an amazing role for Maverick in the movie and there is no Top Gun without Maverick, and it is going to be Maverick playing Maverick," Ellison said. He made the comment during a group interview at the press day for movie Terminator Genisys, which Skydance and Paramount produced.
"It is I don't think what people are going to expect, and we are very, very hopeful that we get to make the movie very soon," Collider reported Ellison saying.
"As everyone knows with Tom (Cruise), he is 100 per cent going to want to be in those airplanes shooting it practically," Ellison said.
"But it all comes down to the script and Justin (Marks) is writing as we speak." Marks's previous work includes Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li, and the live-action remake of Disney's 1967 animated film of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book now being filmed.
Ellison said Top Gun 2 would explore the end of an era of dogfighting and fighter pilots. "It is very much a world we live in today where it's drone technology and fifth generation fighters..."
Talk of a sequel for Top Gun, which came out in 1986, has been around since at least 2010. It seems that now it's finally time for a younger generation of movie-goers to get ready to have their breath taken away.
