January 1, 2016 to be set as digital broadcasting transition period from analogue

YEREVAN, 18 MAY, ARMENPRESS. The Government of the Republic of Armenia will prolong the schedule of transition to digital broadcasting from the analogue broadcasting, from July 1, 2015 defining on January 1, 2016. As “Armenpress” reports, the draft On making amendments in the law of the Republic of Armenia “On Television and Radio" was included in the session of the Government's agenda. The initiative is driven by the necessity of changing the terms of the transition to the digital broadcasting.

According to the current law, from July 20, 2010 until July 1, 2015 is considered to be a period of the transition from the analogue broadcasting to the digital broadcasting, during which by providing necessary infrastructures by the State, the transition to the digital broadcasting is gradually implemented (according to certain regions of the Republic of Armenia).

According to the substantiation of the project, the 90% of the digital broadcasting network was constructed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Armenia, which will be completed and ready for the exploitation until July 1 of this year. Meanwhile, currently the digital broadcasting is being implemented, which is available to the 90 percent of the population of the Republic of Armenia.
