YEREVAN, 18 FEBRUARY, ARMENPRESS. The “Ruben” Committee of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun of Kentron District organized a candle-lighting ceremony near the cross-stone/monument placed in the garden near Yerevan’s Sundukyan National Academic Theater in memory of the 21 Armenian national figures axed by Bolsheviks at a prison in Yerevan on February 18, 1921.

Member of the Yerevan City Committee of the ARF-D Artur Ghazaryanmentioned that the candle-lighting ceremony has been held every year since the collapse of the USSR. “On the one hand, it is a day of remembrance, and we respect the memory of the 21 Armenian national figures axed on February 18, 1921. On the other hand, throughout the years, historiographers have tried to take down this event in shorthand. However, an objective analysis of the history has shown that the revolution of February 1921 played a huge role in the lives of the Armenian people because that revolution brought with it a new pro-Armenian leadership in Soviet Armenia, represented by Alexander Myasnikyan,” he underscored in an interview with “Armenpress”. He noted that there are still Armenian historians who describe the revolution as venturesome. “I believe there is a demand to make February 18th a day of remembrance in the country because it truly is a day of remembrance,” Artur Ghazaryan.
