Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental committee to discuss construction of Iran-Armenia 
railway: Ambassador

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 12, ARMENPRESS. Iran is confident that strengthening and expansion of relations with Armenia stems from its national interests. This conviction is first of all based upon the policy Armenia conducts towards Iran. The Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Iran Grigor Arakelyan stated this in an exclusive interview to “Armenpress” News Agency. Among other things the Ambassador touched upon the Armenian-Iranian relations and bilateral economic interests and introduced new details regarding the construction of Iran-Armenia railway.

- Mr. Ambassador, what stage has the construction of the Iran-Armenia railway entered and when is it considered to finish the construction?

- On one occasion the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan stated that the construction of the modern express line connecting the Georgian ports to the Iranian borders via Armenia’s territory has a revolutionary significance in the respect of transport communications. The realization of this infrastructural program will undoubtedly provide a prospect for new opportunities for the development of the Armenian-Iranian economic relations as well.

The technical-economic basis for the construction of the Iran-Armenia railway has already been completed. The funding side is also known. Relevant discussions dedicated to the program will be held at the course of the session of the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental committee.
