Armenian musicians record “Sari Aghjik” with national instruments’ accompaniment

YEREVAN, JANUARY 13, ARMENPRESS: The campaign, to save the Armenian song “Sari Aghjik” from the Turkish-Azerbaijani privatization, continues. With the initiative of the duduk player Tigran Karapetyan, the folk music has been recorded with the accompaniment of the national musical instruments – duduk, zurna, kanon. Armenpress reports that the co-author of the youth initiative Ani Margaryan considers one of the peculiarities of the initiative to be the fact that gradually more and more people join the campaign. “This song belongs not to our initiative but to our nation. And many people develop their versions of the song to pass it to the public in a new way”, - said Margaryan.
The initiative delivered the song, recorded by the Armenian singer Andre, to the public in the end of 2013, though in 2014 it is intended to be performed by other famous musicians as well. Their names are not yet announced, though the recording works are already being carried out.
“Sari Aghjik” is an Armenian Folk Song” initiative, aimed at identifying and spreading the Armenian roots of the song among the local youth. The roots were partially forgotten after the Armenian Genocide in 1915. First of all, the initiative places great importance on the Armenian cultural heritage in the context of protecting it and preventing the foreign ambitions towards the song.
This beautiful song, of course, is the achievement of the whole region; it is sung in Turkish, Kurdish, Persian, Arabic, Georgian and other languages in different countries. However, it is crucial to remember the Armenian roots and the original Armenian text of the song. The initiators of the project are political scientist, specialist on Azerbaijani studies Anzhela Elibegova and blogger Ani Margaryan. The initiative was supported and organized by the students of Information and Public Communication scientific center of the Yerevan State Linguistic University after V. Brusov. A website was specially designed for the project. Moreover, the official Facebook page is also currently available.
The initiative has started and continues to be based on volunteer principles; it is the official disposition of the organizers. Photoshoots, flashmobs, song recordings by Armenian singers and a number of other events are held in the framework of the project.
