"The eyewitness": 104-year-old survivor prays for Armenian Genocide recognition

The Armenian Genocide initiated in the Ottoman Empire during the World War I in the beginning of the previous century is one of the biggest crimes against humanity. Advancing the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide the new project introduced by Armenpress News Agency is dedicated to the story of the eyewitnesses and survivors of the calamity to prove the world one more time that our demand for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide is fair and justified. This time the project is dedicated to the 104-year-old Suteh Kocharyan.
ETCHMIADZIN, DECEMBER 10, ARMENPRESS: Suteh Kocharyan is known by everyone, who lives in the same street with her in Etchmiadzin. The appearance and cheerfulness will not allow guessing that the woman is 104 years old. The historical motherland of the witness of the Armenian Genocide, born in 1909, was Igdir.
Before being deported from Igdir, there were seven children in Suteh’s family. Two of them – her brother and sister – were killed. In the result Suteh and her parents and the other sisters and brothers settled in Byurakan. In 1937 Suteh got married and gave birth to five children, whom she brought up alone since 1954, after the death of her husband.
“I worked as a dairymaid wherever I could”, - remembers Suteh. She is glad that notwithstanding the difficulties she is now surrounded with the care and love of the 80 members of her family.
The old woman sleeps the major part of the day and watches her soap operas, though it does not prevent her from doing the domestic work as well.
Currently Suteh “has weakened”, by her own terms. She cannot see and hear well. She hopes that one day the Armenian Genocide will be internationally recognized, as she prays for it every day in the mornings. (THE FULL VERSION OF THE ARTICLE IS AVAILABLE IN ARMENIAN)
