 “ArmPost” releases stamp devoted to 225th anniversary of George Byron

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 5, ARMENPRESS.  “ArmPost” released a stamp devoted to the 225th anniversary of the English poet George Byron which depicts his portrait, the painting “Visit of George Byron to Mkhitaryans in Saint Lazarus Island” by Hovhannes Ayvazovski is on the background. The left side of the stamp depicts Armenian letters and signature written by Byron, which is kept in Mkhitaryan unity of Venice and consists of two words “Lord Byron”.

The Ambassador of Great Britain to the Republic of Armenia Jonathan Aves stated at the ceremony of the stamp cancellation that Lord Byron is one of the examples who having no connection with the Armenians on birth and origins, was inspired with the Armenian history and introduced the Armenians and Armenia to the world.  “As an Ambassador of Great Britain, I am proud that there is such a British whom the Armenians love so much, he loved the Armenians too. I am sure that traveling around the world, Armenians can find many “Byrons”,” Jonathan Aves said.
