Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reacts to Plácido Domingo Jr’s visit to Karabakh

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 18, ARMENRPESS. The visit and concert by Mexican singer, songwriter, and composer Plácido Domingo Jr. held in Stepanakert, capital of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, enraged Azerbaijan. The Head of the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elman Abdullayev issued a statement on this occasion. “Armenpress” reports about this citing Haqqin.az website.

As reports “Armenpress” the Head of the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elman Abdullayev reiterated Azerbaijan’s principle standpoint, according to which any visit to Nagorno Karabakh without the permission from official Baku will be considered illegal. Among other things he noted that currently they study the issue of Plácido Domingo Jr’s visit.

The Mexican singer, songwriter, composer and record producer Plácido Domingo Jr. on November 17 performed a concert in Stepanakert, the capital of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic. “In Karabakh I will perform the eleven songs from my CD and will try to perform one of the songs of the great Charles Aznavour. During years I have managed to communicate with Aznavour and had the success to see how my father and Aznavour sang in a duet,” Domingo Jr. said advancing the concert.

Armenpress reports that to the question – is Domingo Jr. afraid of getting into the “blacklist” of Azerbaijan after his concerts in Karabakh, like Montserrat Caballé and other famous persons – the singer answered: “I do not understand anything of the local politics. Is there any possibility that they keep me in prison? I don’t mind, if they give me a pillow and a blanket, as well as a pack of cigarettes and coffee. The only thing I want is not to be shot in the next morning”.

Besides Artsakh, Plácido Domingo Jr. will give his first concert in Yerevan on November 21 jointly with the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia. Plácido Domingo Jr. will perform in Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall, as well as at the Mezzo Club.
