“The eyewitness”: 105-year-old Armenian Genocide survivor ready to return to her motherland
even if “God takes her life”

The Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire during the World War I in the beginning of the previous century is one of the biggest crimes against humanity. Advancing the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide Armenpress introduces the new project on the stories of the eyewitnesses and survivors of the calamity to prove the world one more time that our demand for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide is fair and justified. This time the project is dedicated to the story of the 105-year-old Khazal Hasoyan living in Apaga Village, not far from Etchmiadzin.
APAGA, NOVEMBER 12, ARMENPRESS: The oldest member of the Hasoyan family is Khazal Hasoyan. The 105-year-old Yezidi witness of the Armenian Genocide was born in 1908 in Igdir Village of Surmalu Province.
“I do not know Armenian. I speak it seldom”,- said Khazal Hasoyan in the beginning of the talk, providing her son, Igit, with the right to present the memories.
“The family of my mother emigrated from Surmalu. I know that they were exiled twice”, - Igit told.
According to him, out of five children only his mother managed to survive and she came to the Apaga Village.
The problems with the memory loss and health now do not let restoring the entire consequence of the events. “My mother and father had always said that “we should go back to Surmalu, even if God takes our lives”, as the birthplace “calls”. Their wish has always been to return to the motherland”, - told Igit.
Settling in the Apaga Village, the hero of our story got married and gave birth to five children – two daughters and three sons.
Khazal was smiling during the entire talk as if she proved what her son was telling. (THE FULL VERSION OF THE ARTICLE IS AVAILABLE IN ARMENIAN)
