Armenian government decided to restore Caps reservoir

YEREVAN, AUGUST 8, ARMENPRESS: Government of the Republic of Armenia at its August 8 session made decision of restoring Caps reservoir which is located on Akhuryan River in Shirak region. “Armenpress” reports that the reservoir had to have volume of 60 million cubic meters but the construction works which began in 1985 were suspended in 1993 when the dam height was only 20 meters instead of planned 73.

The unfinished building is dangerous for infrastructures and areas near the lower stream. The reservoir can be favorable for development of region’s agriculture so versions of its restoration have been discussed. German Development Bank (KfW) already expressed readiness to support finishing the Caps reservoir. A contest of projects has been announced.

The program will cost 18.5 million Euros and its loan funds are already planned by bilateral agreement. At present German bank is ready to implement target study with 350 000 Euro grant.
