Marble bust of Flora Martirosyan shows her entire charm

YEREVAN, JULY 13, ARMENPRESS: The white marble bust of the late world renowned Armenian singer Flora Martirosyan will be placed at the Yerevan's Komitas City Pantheon in November on the occasion of her death anniversary. As the Armenpress correspondent was reported by the author of the bust, the sculptor Levon Tokmajyan, the works of the bust preparation have been completed. The sculptor got the order from the family of Flora Martirosyan. “The bust is ready already, but most probably it will be opened in November. I would like that the bust will be placed not at the tomb of the singer but in a more crowded public place”, - said Levon Tokmajyan.

The sculptor noted that quite a detailed work has been done while making the bust of Flora Martirosyan, during which joint discussions were held with the family members living in the United States of America via the Internet. The final version of the monument has 2 meters and 50 centimeters height.

“I knew Flora personally. I was not so close to her, but when I heard her songs it was understood that they were coming from her heart”, - noted Levon Tokmajyan, emphasizing that he tried to present the entire charm of the famous Armenian singer in the monument. The sculptor hopes that his work will not leave the public indifferent.

Flora Martirosyan was born on February 5, 1957 in Gyumri to a family of an athlete and a housewife. She inherited her vocal skills from her mother. Martirosyan studied at the Gyumri Musical School. Her participation in the Garun 73 contest in 1973 brought her the first prize. A graduate of the Yerevan State Conservatory, she later married Hrahat Gevorgyan, a journalist, in 1987. The family moved to Los Angeles, USA, in 1987 and returned to Yerevan in 1997. Martirosyan was the principal of the Yerevan's Armen Tigranyan Musical School in 1997-2001. Martirosyan founded the Komitas Musical Academy in Los Angeles in 2002.

The People's Artist of the Republic of Armenia Flora Martirosyan was the founder of the International Musical School after Komitas, "Artists for Peace" Charity Organization and the initiator of the cultural movement "Never Again".

The singer passed away on November 22, 2012 at the age of 55 from the complications emerged in the result of the gallbladder surgery. Flora Martirosyan was buried in the Yerevan's Komitas City Pantheon on December 12, 2012. After the death of the popular singer as well concerts in her memory are being organized in different countries of the world.
