Syrian Armenians expressed their protest to the Hungarian Ambassador to Syria

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 7, ARMENPRESS: The Syrian Armenians' community, notwithstanding the hard situation in Syria, also joined the world Armenians and expressed their protest to the Hungarian Ambassador to Syria with a special delegation concerning the extradition of the Azerbaijani assassin Ramil Safarov to Azerbaijan, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in Hungary for murdering Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan and his further release by the Azerbaijani President.

As Armenpress was informed by the Damaskus National Primacy, the representatives of the Armenian community and parties visited the Hungarian Embassy in Damascus. The delegation was composed of the Head of the Armenian Eparchy of Damascus Bishop Armash Nalbandyan, the Head of the Armenian Catholic of Damascus Bishop Hovsep Arnautyan, as well as the Chairman of the Armenian Catholic Union of Damascus Sargis Qeshishyan and representatives of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party.

The delegation was accepted by the Hungarian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Syria Yanush Butai. The delegates expressed their indignation and protest against the Hungary-Azerbaijan deal. In particular they emphasized that the Armenians of Armenia, Diaspora and Syria are highly disturbed about the current situation, considering it to be a terrifying step to distort the security issues.

In his turn the Ambassador Yanush Butai presented Hungary's position concerning the issue. Armash handed the Ambassador a letter on the behalf of the members of the delegation, directed to the Hungarian President. The letter demands to give a proper condemnation to the inhuman steps of Azerbaijan towards Armenians.

Azerbaijani assassin Ramil Safarov, who axe-murdered Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan while sleeping, when they were participating in NATO English Language Courses in Budapest, was sentenced to life imprisonment without right to be pardoned for 30 years. Armenia held up the diplomatic relations with Hungary, after Safarov was extradited to Azerbaijan on August 31 2012 and was pardoned by the President Aliyev notwithstanding the fact that Azerbaijan promised to continue the punishment.
