YEREVAN, DECEMBER 26, ARMENPRESS:

Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan gave an interview to Armenpress news agency presenting his visions of the future development of the capital, existing issues.

- Mr. Mayor have you already faced the difficulties of the new work? Which are the prior issues of the city?

- The issues of the city are not new to me. I am aware of the difficulties. It is our everyday work. Believe me, all the issues our residents are facing are obvious for us starting from entrances and courts till transport issues. All the issues have been registered, each has financial assessment, working plan and is included in our annual program in a format of a concrete project of solution. I am sure all the issues may be solved within certain period of time. We just need determination and will and our team has it and the most important we must be consecutive and work heartily. Many urban issues may be solved only with united consecutive work. By saying united work I do not only mean the staffs of the municipality and administrative regions. Our population is too member of our team and we are expecting the assistance of our population in many issues. First of all a resident must not be indifferent.

There are no prior and secondary issues. All the issues are important and need everyday persistent work. Sometimes urgent issues come forth, which naturally become prior ones. In general all the issues are getting coordinated approach, are involved in the development programs of Yerevan.

- You have noticed in your program that you want to make Yerevan clean, green, convenient city. You have a lot to do to reach this goal.

- It is not only my goal but the goal of our political team that was mentioned in our pre-electoral program as well. This program received vote of trust of our citizens and is being implemented. We will continue all the programs directed toward the development of the capital. Many of them have been brought to life and progress is already seen. A number of programs are in process.

And the goal of all us is to see Yerevan one of the best cities with its traditions, hospitality.

- You were the head of the Yerevan Avan community. Becoming the head of the whole capital, won’t you be a little “biased” toward your community?

- I imagine Yerevan as a big family and as a mayor I am responsible for all the administrative regions, for each resident. I do not know whether encouragement of good initiative is being viewed as a biased attitude. I am convinced that good work must be evaluated and corresponding fines have been applied for flaws. For the first time this year system of assessment and analysis of works of administrative regions have been applied which gave an opportunity to view the works in accordance with the spheres and give objective assessment to them.

- Are you planning to solve the transport issue?

- The transport issue in Yerevan like in other big cities is one of the most problematic ones. The new transport network of the capital will be applied from the coming year. Its goal is to unload the transport network.

With the new transport concept it is intended to gradually pass from mini-vans to middle and big-size buses. By the way, soon the first group of the new buses from China will arrive in Yerevan. For their exploitation a new enterprise has been created. The public transport will soon operate in accordance with the new transport network. I think soon the people will see the difference.

- How will the Yerevan be on the eve of 2012? How will the capital mark the New Year?

- On the eve of the New Year Yerevan will be bright and lighted. I am sure the holiday events that have been organized in all the administrative regions will promote the festive mood.
