A CENTER OF ARMENIAN CULTURE OPENS IN ODESSA


YEREVAN, DECEMBER 8, ARMENPRESS:The opening ceremony of center of Armenian culture took place recently in the town of Odessa, the construction of which started three years ago. Press service of Armenian Foreign Ministry told Armenpress that the overall territory of the culture center is 4,000 square meters which includes classrooms of education and artistic training, a sport hall with all its conveniences, a concert hall of 420 places, a hall of ceremonies of 200 places, an Armenian cuisine, business offices, etc. Opening the ceremony of the cultural center head of the Armenian community in Odessa Samvel Tigranian noted that they aimed at constructing a center of such conveniences which will give an opportunity to the Armenian community of nearly 25,000 to have full opportunity of preservation of Armenia, the ethnic characteristics and traditions, organization of Armenian upbringing and aesthetic education, especially when the church built 13 years ago is in the territory of the center. He said that the construction of the center was possible with joint efforts of Armenians in Odessa each of whom had participation within the frameworks of his opportunities and abilities. He expressed his gratitude to everyone for their participation in the establishment of such a center, expressing special gratitude to Odessa provincial and town authorities for their multilateral support and aid and stated that the center will not only serve to the Armenian community but for all the Odessa residents. The ceremony of blessing of the center was done by the primate of Ukrainian Diocese of the Armenian church Grigoris Buniatian. Former head of Ukrainian Supreme Rada A. Yatsenyuk, Ukrainian Culture Minister V. Vovkun, Armenian Culture Minister H. Poghosian, Armenian ambassador to Ukraine A. Khachatrian, head of the Armenian Union in Ukraine H. Pambukhchian, representatives of Odessa provincial and town authorities, consulates accredited in Odessa, science, education, culture, NGOs, ethnic minorities and Armenian community took part in the opening ceremony of the center. The role of Armenian community in the historical relationship between Ukraine and Armenia and their nations, establishment, consolidation and development of multilateral relations has been signified. It has been noted that with its conveniences the cultural center gives an opportunity to hold various events of pan Ukrainian scale. Within the frameworks of the opening ceremony of culture center the Armenian and Ukrainian Culture Ministers H. Poghosian and V. Vovkun ceremonially signed the agreement “On 2008-2012 cooperation between Armenian Culture Ministry and Ukrainian Culture and Tourism Ministry” After the opening ceremony of the center a concert was held with the participation of Armenian and Ukrainian artists. The opening ceremony of the center was widely covered by Ukrainian Medias.
