Expert currently rules out Turkey’s activeness in Armenian direction

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 26, ARMENPRESS. Expert on Kurdish studies, head of the department of the Armenian-Kurdish relations at the Institute of Armenian Research in the Yerevan State University, Vahram Petrosyan, currently rules out the Turkish activeness in partnership with Azerbaijan towards the Armenian direction.

During a press conference in Armenpress, the expert, commenting on the views according to which Azerbaijan together with Turkey is preparing a ground for launching military operations against Armenia, stated that if in the past there was one nation, two states concept, currently it is called one nation, one army as there is Turkish-Azerbaijani partnership.

“It’s not a secret that after the joint military drills the Turkish army, in particular the troops which were in Nakhijevan, are still there. This is a matter of concern. Certain strengthening of Turkey’s positions in the region is also concerning. Nevertheless, I think that currently the Turkish activeness on our direction is ruled out, also due to several factors, such as the one that we do not have problems with our strategic ally Russia. And the steps which are taken at the diplomatic front, in the field of military cooperation, in my view, will rule out such scenario”, he said.

As for the Azerbaijani propaganda which was also joined by Turkey, the accusations addressed to Armenia according to which it failed the negotiations over the Artsakh conflict, the expert stated that it will never stop. “We are in war, and there is no stop during the information war”, he said.

As for the spreading disinformation over the cooperation with Kurds, Petrosyan said it is related to the activity of the Armenian diplomats. “Armenia’s Ambassador to Iraq is conducting an active and effective activity in that country. Azerbaijan and Turkey take into account all the victories of the Armenian side and try to weaken our positions”, he added.

Expert on Arabic studies Sargis Grigoryan in his turn touched upon Turkey’s activeness in the Mediterranean Basin. “In my view, this is not a matter of energy resources only. This also goes beyond the reality of acquiring some territories. Turkey in its ambitious plans tries to implement its neo-Ottoman ideas also in this part”, he said.
