Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican reopens after two-month closure due to COVID-19

YEREVAN, MAY 18, ARMENPRESS.  Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican reopened to visitors on May 18 after being closed for two months due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Euronews reported.

For two days the church has been disinfected by a group consisting of 10 people.

Special materials were used for disinfecting the church in order not to damage the sculptures and equipment inside the church.

Churches and cathedrals have been closed in Italy since March 2020 to tackle the spread of the novel coronavirus.

According to the latest data, the number of people infected with the coronavirus in Italy has reached 225,435. The death toll is over 31,000.
