Defense Ministry bans family visits to military bases in COVID-2019 countermeasure

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 26, ARMENPRESS.  The Ministry of Defense has banned all family visits to military bases in a countermeasure aimed at preventing the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-2019) in Armenia.

“In connection with the cases of a new coronavirus infection registered in the region, particularly in the Islamic Republic of Iran, since February 25, the visits of parents and relatives of servicemen have been banned in all the military units of the Armed Forces of Armenia. All types of leave and vacation time for the servicemen of the mandatory military service have been cancelled, including the certain types of medical leave (with the exception of the servicemen undergoing "I am" program).

The preventive measures in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia are aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus into military units, maximizing the protection of servicemen from infection and properly organizing  anti-epidemic measures, if necessary.

We urge the relatives of all the servicemen to refrain from visiting military units, to take a conscious approach to the measures taken, as they are in the best interests of the servicemen”, the Armenian military said in a statement.
