YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 19, ARMENPRESS. The Cabinet has approved the bill on opening an Armenian embassy in Ethiopia, stationed in Addis Ababa.

Diplomatic relations between Armenia and Ethiopia have been established in December 1993.

“Ethiopia is currently a rapidly growing state which is recording rating growth in international relations. Addis Ababa is one of the main political centers of the African continent, the African Union headquarters is located there, and all states of the African continent without exception are members of the African Union. The Republic of Armenia doesn’t have a representation in Sub-Saharan Africa, while the representation of Sub-Saharan African states in Armenia is limited to the accreditation of non-resident ambassadors in Armenia by only some states. The establishment of the Armenian diplomatic representation in Addis Ababa will significantly regulate and activate Armenia’s contacts with Sub-Saharan African states in terms of both possible economic prospects and support of the more than 50 states of the continent in different international arenas,” reads the bill’s substantiation.

“The opening of the embassy will enable Armenia to not only establish close bilateral relations with Ethiopia but also enhance contacts and cooperation with other African states.

Moreover, the establishment of the Armenian diplomatic representation in Ethiopia will enable to develop simultaneous cooperation with the African Union.”
