YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 26, ARMENPRESS. The United States will not change its policy towards Iran regardless of FM Mohammad Javad Zarif’s resignation, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Twitter.

“We note Zarif’s resignation. We’ll see if it sticks. Either way, he and Hassan Rouhani are just front men for a corrupt religious mafia. We know [Ali Khamenei] makes all final decisions. Our policy is unchanged—the regime must behave like a normal country and respect its people”, he tweeted.

Iran’s foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif announced his resignation early Tuesday morning.

Shortly afterwards IRNA reported that the Iranian president hasn’t yet formally accepted the resignation.

Zarif was serving as FM since 2013.
