Yerevan police arrest two dollar counterfeiting suspects

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 11, ARMENPRESS. Two men have been arrested in suspicision of dollar counterfeiting in Yerevan, police said.

The Organized Crime Department of the Armenian police said it gathered intelligence reports that fake United States dollars have been used in a currency exchange machine of a Yerevan-based bank.

Police launched large scale operations and identified two suspects, who were placed under surveillance.

Few days later the suspects were caught red-handed, police said.

One of the suspects, Tigran Sargsyan, was caught right outside the currency exchange machine. Officers found three fake 100 dollar bills in his possession. Sargsyan and his accomplice were detained and searched.  The other suspect, identified as Gevorg Ghazaryan, carried a single fake 100-dollar bill in his pocket.

Police said the two suspects have exchanged eight fake 100 dollar bills earlier in February.

Both suspects have been arrested amid an ongoing criminal investigation.
