Muslim countries protest against U.S. decision regarding Jerusalem status

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 8, ARMENPRESS. The residents of a number of Muslim countries have rushed into streets to protest against the U.S. decision recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. ARMENPRESS reports a protest started in Amman, the capital of Jordan, following the Friday prayer. Politicians, representatives of the parliament and political parties also participate in the protests.

Large-scale protests are also held in Turkey. The protesters carry posters reading “Jerusalem is a Muslim sanctuary”, “Israel is a murderer and the USA is its sponsor”. They also chant anti-Israeli and anti-American slogans. Turkish police do not block the protests. There are no reports on civil disorders.

Some hundreds of protesters carry our demonstration in Cairo, Egypt near Al-Azhar Mosque. They carry with them the flags of Palestine and chant “Jerusalem is Arabic, it’s neither eastern, nor western”, “We are with Palestine with our hearts and spirits”.

Large-scale protests against the U.S. decision to recognize Palestine Israeli capital are held also in Iraq. The residents of Baghdad and other major cities have rushed into streets. Ambassador of Palestine in Iraq has joint the protests in Baghdad.

The protests in Jerusalem and the cities in the West Bank have turned into clashes with the Police. The Police in Jerusalem managed to disperse the demonstration, but it resumed later with fewer participants. In the cities of the West Bank the protesters threw bottles and stones at the Police. Overall, 200 Palestinians are reported to be injured. According to the information of the Israeli army, nearly 3 thousand people participated in the protests in West Bank and Gaza Strip.
