U.S. State Department summons Turkish Ambassador

YEREVAN, MAY 19, ARMENPRESS. Turkish Ambassador to the U.S. Serdar Kılıç was summoned to the State Department following the recent brutal attack by the Turkish security forces on the peaceful protesters outside the Turkish Embassy in Washington D.C., Demokrathaber.net reports.

U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas A. Shannon expressed his concerns over the incident to the Turkish Ambassador.

Supporters of Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan have attacked peaceful protesters in Washington D.C. The demonstration, which began at Lafayette Square at noon, was organized by a coalition of organizations, including the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) and the American Hellenic Council. Several different groups, which included representatives from the Armenian, Greek, Kurdish, and Assyrian communities, participated in the protest, while President Erdogan met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House. Later it was reported that Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s security detail were the attackers of the peaceful protest. The Police arrested two persons.

The US Department of State, the Mayor of Washington and several Congressmen condemned the brutal attack.
