YEREVAN, JANUARY 11, ARMENPRESS. Political scientist Sergey Minasyan considers important the emphases stressed in the statement of the Minsk Group that mainly related to the implementation of agreements reached in Vienna and St. Petersburg, as well as the installation of trust mechanisms in the border, reports “Armenpress”.

He said this part of the statement refers to Azerbaijan.

“I completely agree with the assessment of Armenia’s Foreign Ministry since the stances of Armenia and the Minsk Group on this issue coincide. In my opinion, only the first two parts of the statement actually contradict each other. It is understandable that an attempt was made to put an equal sign between the actions of the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides. Although I don’t think that the Co-Chairs do not know who initiated such actions. From the other hand, we must assess the second part of the statement, relating to the Azerbaijani saboteur,  in the context of if Azerbaijan didn’t start the attack, in this case why the body of the saboteur appeared in the Armenian territory?”, the political scientist said.

Azerbaijani forces attempted a sabotage infiltration in the Armenian state border, south-east from Chinari village of Tavush province in the early morning of December 29. The Armenian Armed Forces have neutralized the Azerbaijan attacks. Azerbaijani forces were pushed back, suffering losses and WIAs, including in the military positions. Three Armenian servicemen were killed.

12 days after the failed sabotage infiltration attempt, the Minsk Group Co-Chairs issued a statement stating that Baku and Yerevan continue to accuse each other of a December 29, 2016 attempted incursion on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border resulting in casualties.
