Iranian-Armenian painter Edman Ayvazian receives “Arshile Gorky” Medal of Ministry of Diaspora

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 20, ARMENPRESS. Republic of Armenia Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan participated in the opening of Iranian-Armenian painter (currently based in London) Edman Ayvazian’s exhibition at the National Gallery of Armenia on November 20. As “Armenpress” was informed from the Department of Media and Public Relations of Republic of Armenia Ministry of Diaspora, the exhibition, which is called “The Colors of the Native Land”, is organized by the cultural center of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Armenia and the National Gallery of Armenia. It showcases the landscape paintings, as well as the designs and architectural projects created by the merited painter over the past 10-15 years.

In her speech at the opening of the exhibition, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan particularly said the following: “Edman Ayvazian is one of the most remarkable Armenian painters in the Diaspora. He was born and took his first steps in painting in Iran, after which he moved to England, improved his knowledge and developed his talent and condensed the traditions of Armenian, Eastern and European cultures in his paintings. I express my gratitude to the cultural center of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Armenia and the National Gallery of Armenia for organizing this wonderful exhibition and for inviting the merited Master to Armenia on this occasion.”

The minister also talked about Edman Ayvazian’s merits, expressed confidence that his paintings will always be one of the treasures of Armenian arts and announced that she was awarding Edman Ayvazian with the Arshile Gorky Medal of the Republic of Armenia Ministry of Diaspora for his notable contributions to the development of Armenian arts.

Republic of Armenia Deputy Minister of Culture Artur Poghosyan, Director of the National Gallery of Armenia Arman Tsaturyan and director of the cultural center of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Armenia Majid Meshki expressed their appreciation of the painter with their kind words.

Expressing gratitude to the organizers and all the attendees, the 83-year-old painter invited everyone to view his paintings that are full of the sun, love, beauty and warm memories.
