People of Gyumri greet Artur Aleksanyan

GYUMRI, SEPTEMBER 12, ARMENPRESS. Two times World Champion Artur Aleksanyan was greeted with great enthusiasm by the people of Gyumri in his native town. Before the evening feast organized in honor of the “White Bear”, a group of Gyumri people had left for “Zvartnots” airport to meet the athlete. The crowd went to the central square of Gyumri after congratulating the two-times World champion in Greco-Roman wrestling. Besides the fans, there were representatives of city and town authorities. NA MP Martun Grigoryan was also present. A festive concert was organized in honor of the athlete at the square.

Artur Aleksanyan was born 21 October 1991. He is an Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler. He is a two-time world champion, three-time European Champion and an Olympic bronze medalist. Aleksanyan had a successful junior career, becoming a World Champion in 2010. Now competing as a senior, Artur won a gold medal at the 2012 European Wrestling Championships in Belgrade.

Aleksanyan came in first place at the 2012 Olympic Qualification Tournament and won a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

He won another gold medal at the 2013 European Wrestling Championships in Tbilisi, making him a two-time European Champion. Upon returning home, the Mayor of Gyumri Samvel Balasanyan received Aleksanyan and congratulated the athlete on his recent victory in the European Championships. Balasanyan thanked Aleksanyan for restating the sporting legacy of Gyumri with his performance and awarded him directly.
