YEREVAN, JUNE 20, ARMENPRESS: The forthcoming presidential elections of the United States are quite important and interesting for the Armenian community of America. Armenpress reports that the heads of the two largest Armenian organizations of America informed the Voice of America about their opinions concerning the issue – the Executive Director of the Armenian Assembly of America Bryan Ardouny and the Executive Director of the Armenian National Committee of America Aram Hamparian.
According to Hamparian, it is necessary to differentiate between the election campaign and the real actions. “We must be careful not to be naive and believe any promise of the candidates, though at the same time we should not become too faithless and ignore the promises of the candidates”.
The Executive Director of the Armenian Assembly of America Bryan Ardouny said that the elections allow the Armenian community to make the issues, troubling the community, hearable for the candidates. “Our key aim is the strengthening of the Armenian-American relations and to make so that the United States help Armenia to become a democratic and economically developed country, where the law rules”.
The interlocutors agreed that though the issue of the Armenian Genocide recognition plays an important role to get the support of the Armenian community, from the point of view of the ties with Armenia, the American Armenian voters pay attention to other things as well: “Certainly the issue of the Armenian Genocide is in the hearts and heads of the Armenian community of the United States, but the community takes into account also other approaches of the candidates concerning Armenia and Karabakh”.
The Executive Director of the Armenian National Committee of America (Washington) Aram Hamparian adds that on the background of the events of the last few months, the Armenian community of the United States also raises the demand to assist the Armenians, living in the Middle East. The two interlocutors expressed hope that the Armenian community will broadly participate in the upcoming presidential campaign and election nominations.
“As the elections are the best way to achieve changes, we will try to involve the entire Armenian community of America in the elections”, - stated Aram Hamparian, Armenpress reports.
