YEREVAN, 20 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. Governor of the Shangal State of Iraq Maysar Haji Salikh is in Armenia and will participate in the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. During an April 20 press conference, the governor emphasized that the Yazidis have also been subject to genocide throughout the years and are now standing by the Armenians’ side. “We share a common pain, and now I am in Armenia to participate in the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. I have come to condemn the Armenian Genocide and stand by the Armenians’ side,” Salikh emphasized, as “Armenpress” reports.

He mentioned that based on the stories of his parents, he could say that the people of Shangal received the Armenians saved during the years of the Armenian Genocide very well and added that there were nearly 145 Armenian families living in Shangal prior to the attack by ISIS. “Although we’re also in a very difficult situation now since a part of Shangal is under the control of ISIS, we’re ready to do everything we can to help the friendly Armenian people. We’re also certain that the support is mutual,” Shangal’s governor declared.
