Number of animals included in Red Book increased

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 24, ARMENPRESS.  54 new species of the vertebrates have been included in the Red Book of the Republic of Armenia. In accordance with the calculations of 1987 there were 99 vertebrates included in the Red Book of the Republic of Armenia. In 2010 the Government of the Republic of Armenia had made a decision about organizing a new research. The Ministry of Nature Protection of the Republic of Armenia informed "Armenpress" that some of the species, which have been included in the book during the previous research, do not exist any more. Among them are Winter trout, bojak, manul and others.

Due to the efforts of the researchers of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, Yerevan State University and other scientific organizations the Red Book of the Republic of Armenia was completed and now it complies with the international standards of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The new publication of the Red Book of the Republic of Armenia consists of two volumes.
