Karen Bekaryan: Door to cooperation between Armenia and EU is open and not half-open

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 15, ARMENPRESS. The door to Armenia-EU relations is open and not half-open . The fact that 28 EU countries authorized the mandate of European ‪Commission to start negotiations over forming the new legal basis of relations with ‪Armenia points to the fact that the EU understood its former omissions and will conduct special policy for each country of the Eastern Partnership. “Armenpress” reports that Chairman of European Integration NGO, Deputy Karen Bekaryan emphasizes that most of the predictions made earlier came true and were justified.

“We have always said that after Armenia joined EAEU, EU’s reaction was not a reaction connected with Armenia but the situation: they had inner fears that the latter would provoke a chain reaction in regard to Ukraine. On the other hand there was simple logic that the document which had been agreed upon provision by provision for years, could not remain hanging in the air and lead nowhere,” Karen Bekaryan said, adding that there was the stop element at that time and the parties had to check and clarify the time frames, see regional situation and if Armenia were initiative then we would have new legal basis.

Bekaryan says that Armenia was able to achieve that due to hard work but it is too soon to breathe a sigh of relief. He emphasizes that first of all the content of the agreement must be studied as there are expectations and actions to be made connected with the latter.
