Armenian freestylers win 1 bronze medal in World Championship

YEREVAN, AUGUST 19, ARMENPRESS. Armenian wrestler Artak Hovhannisyan (55 kg) won bronze medal in the Junior Wrestling World Championships, which was held in Sofia, Bulgaria, August 13-18. As reports "Armenpress" Armenian wrestler Artak Hovhannisyan gained advantage over Azerbaijani athlete Ruslan Surkhayev with the final score of 9:7.

Greco-Roman wrestlers representing the Republic of Armenia in the aforesaid championship Karen Aslanyan (60 kg) and Karapet Chalyan (74 kg) won two gold medals.

14 athletes introduced the Republic of Armenia in the aforesaid tournament. 7 of them competed in the freestyle wrestling tournaments and the rest in Greco-Roman. Wrestlers competed across three Olympic styles, including Greco-Roman, men's freestyle and women's freestyle. Four weight categories were contested and medals awarded on each of the six days of competition. More than 600 of the top junior wrestlers representing 58 national wrestling federations from around the world had been entered. NFs from all five continental organizations were represented, including wrestlers from Oceania and Africa.
