Armenia's Deputy FM hosted Herwig van Staa

YEREVAN, JUNE 20, ARMENPRESS. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan received the President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the CoE Herwig van Staa. The Press, Information and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia informed "Armenpress" that at the course of the meeting the interlocutors held a detailed discussion regarding the priorities of Armenia's chairmanship in the Council of Europe and particularly touched upon issues concerning local democracy. The both sides laid a heavy emphasis on the fact that Armenia has defined priorities along with the previous and next chairmanships. Among them was the issue of development of local democracy.

Among other things the President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the CoE Herwig van Staa touched upon the Congress Bureau meeting in Yerevan and expressed his gratitude to Armenia's authorities for hosting it in Yerevan and providing high organizational level. In addition Herwig van Staa highlighted the launch of the conference dedicated to the Participatory Democracy at Local Level and noted that this is a very significant issue for the European societies.
