YEREVAN, JUNE 18, ARMENPRESS: A bill recognizing the Armenian Genocide introduced in Ukraine's Parliament has angered the chairman of so-called Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, reported Armenpress referring the Yerkramas Armenian newspaper published in Krasnodar.
Mustafa Dzhemilev, the Crimean Tatar leader and member of the Ukranian Parliamentthreatened theauthors of the billwith the consequences its adoption could lead to, adding that Ukraine's relations with Azerbaijan, Turkey and other Turkic nations could be jeopardized in the event of the bill's passage.
The draft resolution on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1922 has been introduced in Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada. The authors of the aforesaid draft resolution are Verkhovna Rada MPs Arsen Avakov, Vilen Shatvoryan, and Nver Mkhitaryan.
In particular the draft resolution considers the recognition of the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1922 and fixation of April 24 as a remembrance day of the Genocide victims. Also it is stated: "The Genocide issue plays an important role on the international level. It is actual for Ukraine as well… The recognition of the genocide is an exclusively significant issue for half a million Armenian community of Ukraine." It has been suggested to recognize the Genocide on the state level.
