Edward Nalbandyan discussed ways of development of Armenian-British relations

YEREVAN, MAY 21, ARMENPRESS. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Edward Nalbandyan paid an official visit to the UK. The Press, Information, and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia informed "Armenpress" that the visit of Armenia's Minister of Foreign Affairs to the UK launched on May 20 in Westminster Abbey, where Edward Nalbandyan visited the monument to the unknown soldier and the grave of a friend of the Armenian people, prominent British statesmen of the 19th century, former Prime Minister of the UK William Gladstone and commemorated his memory.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia had a meeting with the British Foreign Secretary William Hague in London. William Hague welcomed Minister Nalbandyan and stated that the bilateral relations recorded a progress since the last visit of Armenia’s Foreign Minister, which took place two years ago. He mentioned that high level visits became more frequent, ties between the businessmen activated, and these are good preconditions for strengthening and expanding cooperation in various spheres.

Among other things Edward Nalbandyan and William Hague discussed future steps aimed at fostering the political dialogue, cooperation in international organizations, and activation of business ties. In this respect Minister Nalbandyan laid a heavy emphasis on the fact that the Armenian-British relations have a serious potential for development, which can be pushed forward due to joint efforts. Edward Nalbandyan underscored the activation of cooperation in various spheres during the recent period of time as well.

The interlocutors discussed a number of issues relating to the regulation of regional conflicts. In this regardMinister Nalbandyan introduced the joint efforts of Armenia and the international community aimed at the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict. He also highlighted that in case Azerbaijan expresses the corresponding political will and constructiveness, it will be possible to record progress in the negotiations process.
