YEREVAN, MAY 18, ARMENPRESS. Due to the triumphs of gifted Armenian chess players each Armenian considers himself a chess champion. As reports "Armenpress" the President of the Republic of Armenia, Chairman of Armenia's Chess Federation Serzh Sargsyan stated this at the electoral conference of the Chess Federation of the Republic of Armenia. The conference was held on May 18. According to him the chess society has recorded a palpable growth in 2011-13. For instance, the Armenian National Chess team won world title in China in 2011, and then the team became Olympic champion in Turkey.

Among other things Serzh Sargsyan undersored: "Our today's conference coincided with a notable date in the history of the Armenian chess and our people. 50 years ago on May 20, 1963, Armenian genius Tigran Petrosyan was declared the 9th chess champion of the world. One can surely say that all the glorious achievements of our chess players are but the continuation or the result of the great traditions and heritage left by Tigran Petrosyan."
