Today Armenia's museums will be opened till midnight

YEREVAN, MAY 18, ARMENPRESS. Armenia will celebrate "Museum Night" on May 18. A number of grandiose events will be held on this occasion. This time the events coincide with the International Museum Day. Each year, all museums in the world are invited to participate in International Museum Day to promote the role of museums around in the world, creating unique, enjoyable and free activities around a theme discussed within the ICOM community for this special day. International Museum Day is held every year on or around 18 May, coordinated by the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The event highlights a specific theme that changes every year and that is at the heart of the international museum community's preoccupations. This year the International Museum Day will be launched under slogan "Museums (Memory + Creativity = Social Change)". In this respect Armenia comes forth with a slogan "Museum as Environment for Non Formal Education".
The Cafesjian Center for the Arts also joined the international action "Museum Night" on May 18. On May 18, 2013 the Cafesjian Center for the Arts (CCA) will be celebrating the International Museum Day and Museum Night, by opening its galleries to the public till midnight for free.
CCA offers 40 % discount on ALL individual membership levels on May 14-19, 2013.
The featured event for the Museum Night will be the opening of unique exhibitions. Dale Chihuly: Ikebana in Gallery One and POP Connection in Sasuntsi Davit Garden Gallery, presenting artworks from the Gerard L. Cafesjian Collection. During the Museum Night visitors will have another opportunity to see the exhibition Hagop Hagopian: Iron Narratives which will close on May 26.
Together with these exhibitions, CCA has also organized educational programs. Among them is Imitating Glass, where the participants will create a chandelier using recyclable plastic bottles; PoPoster (based on the exhibition POP Connection). The participants will be involved in the creation of a POP art-related poster; and Create Your Narrative (based on the exhibition Hagop Hagopian: Iron Narratives). The participants will choose objects and create their own works using Hagop Hagopian's approach. Participation in the educational programs is free, with a prior reservation.
Movies about Dale Chihuly's art will be screened at the Special Events Auditorium.
Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin also participates in "Museum Night" for the first time.
With the blessings of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin will participate in "Museum Night", being held throughout Yerevan on the EU created "International Museum Day".
Starting at 18:00, the Mother Cathedral Museum will be open to the public. Admission will be free.
An exhibition dedicated to the Pontifical symbols and the church and state awards given to Catholicoses of All Armenians as well the highest orders in Armenian Apostolic Church will be opened on this occasion
