YEREVAN, MAY 16, ARMENPRESS. The humanitarian demining activities will launch in the Republic of Armenia on June. In a conversation with "Armenpress" the Press Spokesman of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Artzrun Hovhannisyan stated that the activities will kick off in the Syunik Province. Also Artzrun Hovhannisyan underscored: "'Humanitarian Demining Expertise Centre' SNCO will carry out the demining activities in cooperation with the Swiss partners." Among other things the Press Spokesman of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia noted that the launch of the demining activities is conditioned by the financial transfer of the U.S. Department of State.
After the establishment of the ceasefire regime there are still mined areas in the environment of about 60 regions. Also there are 102 sites, which are considered to be ambiguous. These territories cover about 322 cubic km.
