YEREVAN, MAY 14, ARMENPRESS: The International Human Rights Watch condemned the Syrian rebel for eating a soldier’s heart and called the publication of the video in the internet a war crime. The Organization repeated its call to the United Nations Security Council to refer theSyriasituation to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to ensure accountability for all war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The representatives of the Syrian opposition have already declared that the commander in the video will be responsible for his actions.
At the end of the video, after that statement, the man called Abu Sakkar is filmed putting the corpse’s heart into his mouth, as if he is taking a bite out of it, appealing to make the same with all the soldiers of Bashar al-Assad’s army, as reported by Armenpress. Because of the extremely graphic and disturbing nature of the video, Human Rights Watch has decided not to publicly release the footage, although an edited and blurred version is available on the internet.
As reported by BBC correspondent, the horrible video might damage the reputation of the Syrian opposition right at the moment when the United States and other western countries are discussing the possibility to provide the rebels with military assistance.
