European Court of Human Rights expert on Safarov's case Philip Leach to arrive in Armenia

YEREVAN, MAY 14, ARMENPRESS. English expert in the European Court of Human Rights Philip Leach will arrive in Armenia on Azerbaijani criminal Ramil Safarov’s case, who murdered Armenian Army officer Gourgen Margaryan. In a conversation with "Armenpress" lawyer of Gourgen Margaryan's family and Hayk Makuchyan introducing their interests in the European Court of Human Rights Siranush Sahakyan stated that it's possible that Leach's visit to Armenia signifies the positive reply of the European Court of Human Rights regarding the claim of the Armenian side on Ramil Safarov's case. Among other things Siranush Sahakyan noted: "Our correspondence with the European Court of Human Rights became protracted. Notwithstanding the activities aimed at the investigation of the case never ceased. The reason of protraction is the amount of lawsuits gathered in the European Court of Human Rights."

On February 19, 2004, Lieutenant of the Armenian Armed Forces Gurgen Margaryan, was hacked to death, while asleep, by a fellow Azerbaijani participant, lieutenant Ramil Safarov, in Budapest during a three-month English language course in the framework of Partnership for Peace NATO-sponsored program. The Hungarian authorities extradited the criminal on August 31, 2012, despite the fact that the Hungarian court had sentenced Ramil Safarov to a life imprisonment with noright to be pardoned in 30 years time. The assassin was not mainly released in Homeland, but granted a mayor title as well.
