Iranian MFA denies news spread by Iranian press regarding statement on Syria attributed to Armenian President

YEREVAN, APRIL 10, ARMENPRESS: Foreign Ministry of Iran denies publication of Iranian press as if at the meeting with Foreign Minister of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi Serzh Sargsyan has declared “external interference in Syrian affairs brought to violence and murders”. Responding to Armenpress question, Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs considered comments on the meeting of Iranian Foreign Minister and President Serzh Sargsyan to be a mistake and result of journalists’ negligence.

On April 9 Iranian Press TV channel spread news as if at the meeting with Foreign Minister of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi President Serzh Sargsyan declared that “external interference in Syrian affairs brought to violence and murders, tensed situation in the Arab country”.

Official messages, nevertheless, prove that Armenian-Iranian relations have been discussed at the meeting, without referring to Syrian issue. Message published on the official web site of Iranian MFA mainly reads:

“Iranian Foreign Minister underlined Tehran-Yerevan friendly relations and added that in order to promote development of our cooperation it is necessary to use existing possibilities. In his turn Armenian President has noted the special nature of Armenian-Iranian relations, hoping that bilateral cooperation will be strengthened in all the spheres”.
