YEREVAN, APRIL 3, ARMENPRESS: The Turkish President Abdullah Gül considered shameful the removal of the author of the book “1915: The Armenian Genocide” Hasan Cemal from the Turkish Milliyet Newspaper. As reported by Armenpress, citing the Turkish Aksam Newspaper, this was stated by Abdullah Gül at the press conference during his visit to Latvia and Lithuania. “I have always appreciated and highly evaluated the authors, who express their opinions on such subjects freely. Sincerely speaking, the action made against Hasan Cemal is very shameful. Regardless if we agree with his thoughts or not, he writes his works sincerely”, - said the President of Turkey.

Earlier the Turkish Taraf Newspaper published that after the book of Hasan Cemal “1915: The Armenian Genocide” had become a bestseller in Turkey, the Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan warned the owner of Milliyet, who then dismissed Hasan Cemal. They sent the journalist to a brief vacation and then refused to publish his articles.

Hasan Cemal, the grandson of the founder of the “Young Turks” Party of the previous century Cemal Pasha, visited the Monument devoted to the Armenian Genocide in Yerevan in 2008 to ask for pardon for the Genocide. The author devoted his book “1915: The Armenian Genocide” to the memory of Hrant Dink.
