YEREVAN, JANUARY 8, ARMENPRESS. Armenian Chess Grandmaster Hrant Melkumyan finished his play in Basel international chess championship. The Chess Federation of Armenia informed "Armenpress" that Hrant Melkumyan scored 7 points out of 9 and shared 3rd-5th places together with GMs Maxim Turov (Russia) and Edouard Romain (France) at the rapid open that was held in Basel, Switzerland. By the tie-break Melkumyan took the 5th place.
IM Eric Hansen (Canada) and GM Mateusz Bartel (Poland) earned 7,5 points each. By the tie-break Eric Hansen representing Canada became the winner. 85 chess players took part in the tournament.
