President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow arrived in Armenia

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 29, ARMENPRESS. The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow paid an official visit to Armenia on the invitation of the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan. As reports "Armenpress" President Serzh Sargsyan welcomed the distinguished guest in "Zvartnots" Airport. The official ceremony of welcoming has been held.

In frames of his visit the President of Turkmenistan will have a number of meetings with the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan. The sides consider the ratification of a number of documents aimed to the development and strengthening of the cooperation. The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow will also visit Ejmiatsin and have a meeting with His Holiness Karekin II Catholicos of All Armenians. President Berdimuhamedow will also meet with the lecturers and students of Yerevan State University and visit Matenadaran Museum of Ancient Manuscripts after Mesrop Mashtots.

This is a new stimulus of the development of the relations of Armenia and Turkmenistan. Serzh Sargsyan, who paid an official two-day visit to Turkmenistan on November 24, 2010, stated that Armenia holds in high esteem the relations between the two countries and they are of a certain importance for the Armenian people. Also the President of the Republic of Armenia underscored the serious potential for the cooperation in a number of spheres, including energy, transport and agriculture.

In turn President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow noted that the visit of the President of Armenia could become a new cornerstone for the development of reciprocal relations. Among other things he said: "Our attitude towards Armenia and its hard-working people is very warm."

Diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkmenistan have been established on October 9, 1992. Vladimir Badalyan has become the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Turkmenistan in 2008. Ata Serdarov has been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Armenia in 2010.
