Armenian young chess players defeated Peru team

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 5, ARMENPRESS: Armenia under-16 youth chess team scored the victory over Peru young chess team at the World Youth Under-16 Chess Olympiad 2012 9 th stage with 3,5: 0,5 score hosted in Istanbul. Reportedly Armenian young chess players scored 21, 5 points and currently are ranked in the 7th place.

As Armenpress reports, Iran chess team tops the list of the leaders scoring 26 points. Russian team yields the leader : with 25,5 points Russian young chess players are holding the second place.The teams occupying 4-9 places have gained 21, 5 points; consequently Armenian young chess players once again improved their position. At this traditional tournament, Armenia’s national youth team comprised Tigran Harutyunian, Manuel Petrosyan, Arman Mikealyan, Norayr Torosyan, and Vladimir Kanjaryan. The team’s head coach is Arsen Yeghiazarian.

The young chess players will compete in ten rounds and under Swiss rules. The World Youth Chess Championship is a chess competition for girls and boys under the age of 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18. The first predecessor of the youth championship was the Cadet Championship. It started off unofficially in 1974 in France for players under 18.
