YEREVAN, AUGUST 29, ARMENPRESS: Armenian Grandmaster Levon Aronian scored the win over Ziaur Rahman during 40th Chess Olympics hosted in Istanbul in the course of Armenia-Bangladesh match.
The match score was 1:0 to Armenia’s benefit Armenpress reports. It was the first time Aronian was participating in these games and reportedly won the very first match. Aronian played for Armenia in the Chess Olympiads of 1996, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. He took team bronze medal in 2004 and team gold medal in 2006 and 2008. In the 2010 Chess Olympiad he won the silver medal for his individual performance on board one. He was a member of the gold-medal winning Armenian team at the World Team Chess Championship in 2011. On the May 2012 FIDE list, he had an Elo rating of 2825, making him number two in the world and third highest of all time.
