YEREVAN, AUGUST 29, ARMENPRESS: The delay of the meeting with French President Francois Holland to Armenian community members is not only due to vacation period and business of the head of the country. ARF Western Europe Central Committee representative , Armenian Cause head in France Hrach Varzhapetyan told in the briefing with Armenpress, the meeting did not take palce mostly because Armenian community did not wish to haste the procedure , surely the entire month of August is vaction for French habitants, President inclusive.
We need to prepare a document comprising several provisions referring to new draft criminalizing the denial of Armenian Genocide. Holland office has already confirmed the meeting with Armenian community members which is going to take place in the mid of September, whether we are more concerned in registering warm relations than clarifying the terms” Varzhapetyan noted.
In his words the draft elaboration must be done by Socialist MP, it is the very first time in French history that the power is in the hands of one political force, and reportedly the chanses of success are greater.Varzhapetyan does not does not exclude Nicolas Sarkozy scenario as well. In case the issue will get to Constitutional Council, President promised to fulfill his obligations, yet we are careful it could be policy.It is gratyfing fact that Holland forwarded the issue still in the fisrt months of his office holding when Sarkozy referred to it in the last six months of his President activities. We have no alternative not to trust him "interlocutor underscored.
In the words of Varzhapetyan if Holland does not keep its promise Armenian community positive attitude will change and the protest against him will be commensurate strong.Dwelling on Turkish policy pertain to draft, European political scientist noted Turkey cares no effort to interfere the process. They will make junctions to hinder the process. Turkish state, millions of dollars allocated by the state means are engaged in the process, so our "fight" is not equal, nevertheless in the result we shall score the win, as our claim is just” Varzhapetyan assured.
In the words of the interlocutor this draft is a nationwide problem and does not mainly concerns to French Armenians. Turkey is high aware other European and Western countries can follow the example of France.
Constitutional Council of France recognized Armenian Bill criminalizing the denial of Armenian Genocide unconstitutional on February 28. French Senate affirmed the bill on January 23, 2012. In case of approval by the Constitutional Council it was to be submitted to ratification of President Nicolas Sarkozy.The bill intended one-year sentence and a fine of 45000 euros for denying of the Armenian Genocide in the territory of France.
