YEREVAN, JUNE 25, ARMENPRESS: Libya’s former prime minister who served under deposed leader Muammar Gaddafi has arrived back in Tripoli after being extradited from Tunisia, reports Armenpress citing Arabian Medias.

Al Baghdadi Ali al-Mahmoudi is the first senior official to be returned for trial under Libya’s transitional leadership.

The country’s interim Prime Minister Abdurrahim el-Keib confirmed his detention.

“In complying with the principals of the February 17 revolution regarding the respect of human rights, the Libyan government confirms that the accused will receive good treatment consistent with our religion and international customs.”

Mahmoudi fled to neighboring Tunisia when rebel fighters took Tripoli in August last year. His extradition has caused tension back in Tunis where President Moncef al-Marzouki said he had not authorized the handover.
