YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 22, ARMENPRESS. Office of the Council of Europe will open in Yerevan. Citing Armenian Government website, Armenpress reports that the issue of signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on legal status of Council of Europe Yerevan Office between the Armenian government and the Council of Europe is included in the February 23 agenda of the cabinet sitting.

The office comes to replace the CoE Information Office opened in Armenia since 2002 and the CoE General's Special Representative's institute existing since 2003.

Stressing the importance of cooperation between Armenia and the Council of Europe and considering the CoE role in Action plan and other programs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia finds the establishment of CoE office and the signing of the Memorandum important.

The opening of the office is also the logical result of the institutional reform process initiated by the Secretary General which aims to make the functioning of CoE institutions and its presence in member countries more effective.
